Georgia Joins Kansas & Idaho in Updating Self-Storage Laws
Georgia's new self-storage law, HB 934, was signed by Gov. Brian Kemp on May 6, 2024 and took effect on July 1, 2024. The law establishes procedures for handling property left behind by vacating tenants and allows rental agreements to be sent and signed electronically.

Property Disposal Process: Defines how self-storage operators can manage abandoned property after a tenant leaves.
Electronic Agreements: Rental agreements can now be delivered and signed digitally.

Rockdale County Pauses New Self-Storage Development for 120 Days
Rockdale County, Georgia, has enacted a 120-day moratorium on new self-storage developments, along with gas stations, vape shops, and discount retailers selling goods for $10 or less. The decision is part of an effort to update the county’s unified development ordinance (UDO) for the first time in a decade.

Temporary Halt: No new permits or approvals for self-storage and certain retail businesses until May 1, 2025.
UDO Update: The county is revising its zoning regulations to better align with long-term development plans.
